Powerhouse Foreshore Restoration Day
Mr Lane and Mr Oakes from Cayoosh Elementary brought their students down to the restoration site in October for a field day. Part of the educational component was a teaching train activity planned by Odin Scholz - there were about 10 stations where two students at each station were taught something about the animals, plants and restoration work. They then in turn taught their classmates as they cycled through the "train". It was a lot of fun and a great way for students to learn from each other. It was rewarding to hear students saying "this was one of our best days yet!" They then planted around 56 native shrub species.

Pierre Friele is a professional geoscientist specializing in geologic hazards assessment, terrain mapping, geomorphology and historical geology. He has considerable experience and knowledge of the Lillooet area.
Pierre is going to focus on "landslides and their impacts on the Fraser River. There was a paper 20 or so years ago that documented the so-called Texas Creek landslide that occurred some 1000 years ago. It dammed the Fraser River forming a lake that extended up to Lillooet. There are old river channels at Lillooet that date from this time period. We could examine these, then go down on the east side to Texas Creek and check out the landslide itself. We could then examine the other slow moving slides affecting the Highway 12 side between Lytton and Lillooet, or at Gibbs Creek."

Salmon in the Seton – Anderson Watershed
On September 22, 2007 the Lillooet Naturalist Society hosted a presentation by researcher, David Roscoe, about our local salmon:
Fishway passage, water diversion and warming temperatures: Factors limiting the production of Seton-Anderson watershed sockeye. Spawning escapement of sockeye salmon in the Seton-Anderson watershed has declined in recent years. The Gates Creek and Portage Creek sockeye that spawn in the watershed must migrate through a highly engineered and hydrologically altered system to reach spawning grounds. Our research examines the passage efficiency of sockeye migrating through the Seton hydroelectric complex and the factors limiting successful spawning migration.

Mike Mackintosh was here for the BCFO meetings in May. He did an engaging presentation for the public at the Friendship Centre.
